DMA 234 - MIN-SKOA71

MILESTONE 4 : Design & Ideas

Duration Time : 105 mins (total)

Date : Feb 26/ 2011

Mock-up Version

At this point, I was just experimenting with the various paint splatters and colour schemes. I still intend on adding the grunge background, the slogan, the QR-code and a better logo asset to the final production layout.

MILESTONE 3 : Story & Sketchbook (Visual Thinking)

Duration Time: 75 mins (total)

Date: Feb 17/ 2011

So from taking a few of the ideas from my mind map, I've decided to sketch a few thumbnails that would bring across my concept of a "grunge themed" ad. I wanted to include the dirty, gritty feel to the ad by adding the required "paint splash" effect as well the footmarks of the ladies boots. These two effects will also add texture to the whole production.

Overall I would like the production to give the feel of how it is like for a young, independent and strong female to wear these particular boots. She can conquer the world without the help of the opposite sex. She's in control of her whole destiny. She relies on no one. So I think the whole "grunge-theme" to the production will bring across this idea greatly.

I intend on using the same colour scheme implied here for the final logo.

MILESTONE 2: Shoe Hero

Duration Time: 50 mins (total)

Date : Feb 13/ 2011

My task at this point was to clean up the original image I intend on using for the assignment.
Before : Original Image
After: Image ready for production version, cleaned in Photoshop

Photoshop tools used to accomplished this clean up are:

Quick Selection Tool : To get rid of the major areas from the background

Magic Wand Tool : To get rid of the majority unwanted areas

Eraser Tool : To get rid out small, hard to reach areas while in the " Quick Mask" mode

DMA 234 - Project:: Shoe ReBoot aka Min Skoa71

Objective : To create a stylized design campaign for a re-launch of a footwear company using previous raw materials for the final digital preparation that may require print output and/or online presentation.

MILESTONE 1 : DISCOVERY & IDEATION

Duration Time:
45 mins

Date : Feb. 8 / 2011

So for my first task, I decided to brainstorm a few ideas for the given assignment.
I read the MIN SKOA 71' s SOW & came up with some very interesting ideas & concepts in which the project can be leading towards.

From analyzing all of the different pointers I came up with, I see myself leading towards creating a strong, bold grunge theme ad gearing towards the strong and independent young female.

CUL502 YA: Media and Pop Culture

Blog submission #2

Radio

Since moving to Canada over 4 years ago, I’ve stopped listening to mainstream radio. It’s not to say that there isn’t anything good on; it’s just that I’m kind of sick and tired of hearing the same song that they call “music” nowadays, over and over again every single hour. I've basically become disgusted with the messages found in popular music today and it doesn't help that those who are so-called " singing" these songs, just happen to have no talent at all. I have discovered that the "real' talented musicians out there nowadays are either underground or underrated and its a shame that the these music execs won't give them a chance to shine. I find myself relating to their music over some silly pop song on the airwaves. I can genuinely feel all the raw emotion that they put into their art and what a great feeling it is! Yes, pop music tends to go through a fad, every now and then; at least I can rely on the music of undiscovered talented gems to give me some sense of joy.

Reality TV

I am not a fan of “reality television”. Never have been and never will be. Why, you ask? Well, first off, it’s not as “real” or “genuine” as we think it is. A majority of the time, the shows themselves is mainly scripted & those involved have to act a certain way while the cameras are rolling. They’re basically getting paid to do a job and that job is basically to act either as a certain cultural stereotype (i.e. the perception of Italian-Americans on “Jersey Shore”) or gender stereotype (i.e. the so-called “gold-diggers” claiming to be looking for love on “The Bachelor”). There was a time however; in the beginning of the reality TV craze, that I would take in a couple episodes of “American Idol” or “The Biggest Loser” but I began to lose interest after awhile, mainly because it was basically it was the same old routine, season after season. Although, there’s a huge part of me that wishes that this was all just a fad that would go away sometime soon, it has somehow turn out to be tremendously popular in society nowadays and has seemingly made a permanent place in pop culture.

DMA 234 - MIN-SKOA71 - 1st run concepts

So, the image above is the 1st run concept ideas, I have so far for the re-do of my shoe ad. I'm currently playing around with the idea of using the shoeprint as a form of texture for the shoe ad background.

DMA 234 - Textures (Week 1)

For this course (Computer Graphics & Imaging), I'm required to produce 3 new textures eack wk, using the various tools found in Photoshop. Here are my 1st set for textures.

DMA 101 - 3D Scenes

The first attached jpeg entitled “Magician’s Hat” depicts objects you would find at a magic show. Among the objects present is a magician’s hat along with a magic wand. Both objects were brought to life by using 3D Revolve. Plastic shading was used on the surfaces of the hat and the wand. The red ribbon was mapped onto the hat. Linear gradient option was used for the curtain in the background and the radial gradient option was used on the tablecloth top which the hat lays on. Drop shadow was used on the hat. The magic dust was created by using my own custom
made symbol. The Symbol Sprayer Tool was then use to create the magic dust effect.

The second attached jpeg entitled “Oscar – Red Carpet” depicts a red carpet affair at the Academy Awards. An Oscar statue stands directly in the centre of the design. It was created by using the 3D Revolve tool. The two major star shapes in the background was created by using the Star tool and the final effects were done by using the 3D Extrude and Bevel option. Linear gradient was used on the statue, the two major stars, the red carpet and on the carpet poles. Radial gradient was used in the background. Plastic shading was used on the surfaces of all the objects present. Drop shadows were placed under the statue and also under the poles. The starry effect background was created by using a preset star symbol and my own small Gaussian blurred circles that was then placed as a symbol and then used with the Symbol Sprayer tool.
