DMA179 - Skatedeck

So for my final assignment for my Sketching for Communication course, I had to produced a print for a skatedeck using the theme "PREDATOR." So I decided to use my love for tribal art and design a snake.

Brainstorming/ Inspiration

So it get me started on this project, I jotted down some potential ideas for my skatedeck & from there, I decided to look at further imagery to get an idea of what style I would go for.

Rough Sketch of desired design

I tried to incorporate various elements into my one & only design and this is what I ended up with. I wanted to snake to give off a "tribal design" feel to it.

Desired Colour Template

I wanted to incorporate earth tones colours in the final design

Vector Elements

The desired sketch was them scanned and then made into a vector illustration using Adobe Illustrator

Raster Elements

I decided to use a wooden texture as my deck background. The texture was created using Adobe Photoshop.

Typography

I decided to use my own freelancing logo on the skatedeck. It was sketched, scanned and created in to a vector illustration using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

For the word "Designs", I used the font "Constantia"

Skatedeck W.I.P

Both the raster and vector elements were put together to give a final view of how the potential skatedeck would look. This was then sent to print.

Skatedeck Final

This is the final result of the Tribal Snake "PREDATOR" skatedeck. It was placed on a blank wooden skatedeck and then sprayed with clear acrylic paint to give it a glossy feel.

DMA179 - Inspired Sketch ( James Paterson)

For this assignment, I was assigned the Canadian multimedia designer James Paterson (PRESSTUBE)

From my research, I realized that his style consisted of mainly lines and organic shapes.
So from my research, I was inspired to create a piece based on his style.
